When planning your visit to DHWC, you will no doubt have some important questions. Let us try to answer some of them.
What should I wear? On any given Sunday, you will find people at DHWC wearing gym shorts or blue jeans and a t-shirt, business casual, suit and tie, and even traditional ethnic outfits. Wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing in public.
What should I bring? If you have a Bible, that would be great. If you don't have a Bible, don't worry! We have one we will give you, or we recommend YouVersion's Bible app (it's free!) for your mobile device. You can also take notes from the sermon on it! A sense of humor is pretty important because we don't take ourselves too seriously. And a desire to meet with God is probably the most important thing you can bring! After all, isn't that what church is about?
DHWC is located at:
4025 Lower Beaver Rd.
Des Moines, IA 50310
When you arrive at DHWC, there are several things you can expect. First, you won't be just a number. It may take a week or two, but we will endeavor to learn your name! You will experience God through a variety of styles. Some churches make a big deal about the style of their worship service. We're not really stuck on a style. Some aspects of the service, therefore, will be very contemporary, while others are considered traditional. You will hear biblical teaching. A lot of churches offer a nice message about fluffy kitties, warm sunshine, and other stuff. We will open the Bible and study it together, searching for what it has to say to us today. And we'll be challenged to go home and put what we've learned to use in our lives.
At DHWC, we love kids! We believe that children are the future of the church, and so we take very seriously the need to disciple the youngest members of our congregation. To that end, we recently remodeled our nursery, enlarging it and making it a bright and fun space for kids 0-5. For older kids, our worship service includes a special children's moment designed to help them engage with the sermon, and activity bags are available to keep kids occupied. Children are welcome to participate throughout the service! Don't worry if they squirm or make some noise. We love kids!
